II : Descriptive Statistics

Module II · 4 Topics

Module I organized raw data into class intervals and frequency distributions. This module takes the next step: collapsing that organized data into single, representative numbers. Measures of central tendency locate the middle of a dataset, measures of dispersion describe how tightly or loosely the data clusters around that middle, and measures of skewness and kurtosis describe the shape of the distribution itself, its lean and its peakedness. Together these are the standard toolkit for describing any dataset in a handful of numbers, and every calculation in this module builds directly on the frequency distribution table from Chapter 4.
